When did you last properly review your website?
Not redesign it. Not rebuild it from scratch. Simply take the time to read through the content, check the information and make sure it still accurately represents your business today.
We have recently completed a light update to the PME Group website, working alongside their marketing manager to refresh existing copy, update key pages and ensure the information throughout the site remains correct and relevant. We also added a new news section, giving the company a dedicated space to share developments, projects and industry updates.
There was no need for a completely new design or a major change to the layout. The website already provided a strong foundation. It simply needed some attention to bring the content up to date and make it easier for the PME Group team to keep the site active in the future.
Websites can quickly become out of date without anyone really noticing. Services evolve, teams change, new products are introduced and the way a company describes what it does can develop over time.
A website may still look perfectly good while presenting information that is several years old. Visitors will not necessarily know which details are outdated, but old content, missing services or incorrect information can affect their confidence in the business.
Periodically reviewing your website gives you the opportunity to check:
Businesses sometimes put off updating their website because they assume it will involve a large and expensive redevelopment project. That is not always the case.
A focused content refresh can make a meaningful difference without changing the overall design. This could include rewriting key sections, reorganising information, replacing outdated imagery, adding new service pages or introducing a news area.
These smaller improvements can extend the useful life of a website and ensure it continues to support the business effectively.
Keeping content current is not only important for visitors. Regular updates also give search engines a clearer and more accurate understanding of your business.
New service information, project updates and useful news articles can provide additional opportunities for your website to appear in relevant searches. They can also help demonstrate current experience and expertise to people researching your company.
A news section is particularly valuable when it has a clear purpose. It can be used to share new projects, company developments, technical insights, customer stories and industry knowledge. Over time this creates a stronger and more informative website rather than one that remains unchanged for years.
We would recommend carrying out a general website review at least every six to twelve months. Key information should be updated as soon as it changes, while a more detailed review can identify pages that need refreshing, expanding or removing.
It is also worth reviewing your website whenever there is a significant change within the business, such as:
Your website should be a current reflection of your business, not a snapshot of how it looked several years ago.
The PME Group update is a good example of how a thoughtful website refresh can improve content and keep a site relevant without the need for a complete redesign.
Sometimes a new website is the right answer. At other times, reviewing what you already have and making a series of well-considered updates is all that is needed.
