Yes I know, a very strange title to this blog post but for anyone who is familiar with ‘What 3 Words’ they will understand.
Let me explain: what3words is a really simple way to talk about location. They have divided the world into a grid of 3m x 3m squares – YES THE WHOLE WORLD – THAT’S A LOT OF SQUARES.
Each square has been assigned a unique 3 word address. It means anyone can accurately find any location and share it more quickly, easily and with less ambiguity than any other system.
If like me you thought – WHAT!!! – How can this be easier?
Well having tried the system it makes a lot of sense – for example how many times have you tried to find a location and someone has said “Don’t use the postcode it will take you somewhere else” or “We are the third white gate after the second lampost on the left” – hardly great directions.
What3Words gives you a simple 3 word location which is linked to your 3m x 3m square giving great accuracy.
So for example Insignia Creative Ltd is at body.purple.tester – easy to find using their location map and extremely precise – my car parking space at work is bleat.cattle.belt.
They seem to be doing great things with Tom Tom and other big brands starting to utilise their lovation services and I can soon see websites shoing their location this way and it being printed on corporate stationery – WATCH THIS SPACE!
